Boyds is delighted to welcome Christine Smith as a Consultant Pharmaceutical Physician to support the clinical activities of the company and in particular supporting the work being undertaken in cell and gene therapy development.
Christine qualified with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1999 from the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa and completed her post-graduate Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine in 2015 from the University of Brussels. She joins Boyds with 10 years of experience working across all phases of drug development.
Her varied career includes work in clinical practice and research, as well as the pharmaceutical industry where she worked as a medical advisor for Organon Laboratories in Cambridge, Sanofi Aventis in Guildford and Novo Nordisk in Crawley across Phase 2-4 clinical trials including active fieldwork.
Christine has also worked in medical management and managed a team of 18 MDs and PHDs across the UK and the Channel Islands. She was recognised by Novo Nordisk in their Global Leadership Development Program 2015-16 after they selected her as their UK ambassador.
Following years of experience in medical affairs and medical management, Christine is a final signatory for the review and approval of promotional material under the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry. She is also a Fellow at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine.
Commenting on her appointment with Boyds, Christine said: “After a decade in a career involving a significant amount of national and international travel, I wished to find a way of using my skills and experience as a consultant.
“I have known Alan Boyd for many years through the Faculty and the Dip Pharm Med course and Boyds were the first company to come to my mind when I considered entering the world of independent consulting due to their excellent reputation in the field. I am very grateful for the opportunity to work with the team at Boyds.”
