A-level student gains industry experience at Boyds
Over the last two weeks, Maya Chakrabarti, an A-level student at Watford Grammar School for Girls, has been completing a work experience placement at Boyds. In this guest blog, she reflects on her experience – from learning about different departments and career paths to gaining insight into finance, marketing and the wider life sciences sector.
During the summer, I completed a two-week work experience placement at Boyds, which gave me the opportunity to learn more about the different departments within the company and how they work together.
As part of my placement, I was given an assignment to write a report exploring different areas of the business, with a particular focus on finance. I also had the opportunity to meet with colleagues from a range of departments to learn more about their roles, responsibilities and day-to-day work.
I am currently studying Maths, Economics and Politics A-levels at Watford Grammar School for Girls. In the future, I would like to study Economics and Finance at university before pursuing a career in the finance sector. However, I am also keen to keep my options open and am interested in potentially exploring law or other areas of business.
One of the most valuable parts of my work experience at Boyds was hearing from people with different career backgrounds and learning about their experiences across a variety of roles. It was particularly interesting to see how data is analysed and applied in a real-world business environment.
I wanted to use the placement to understand more about different career paths and discover which areas interested me most. Finance and marketing were two areas I found particularly engaging.
Overall, my time at Boyds was insightful and gave me a much better understanding of the life sciences sector, how a consultancy operates, and the range of career opportunities available within a business like Boyds. It has been a valuable opportunity to learn more about the working world and consider the different paths I may want to pursue in the future.
Supporting the next generation of talent is something we care deeply about. We are proud to give young people opportunities to experience the working world, develop their skills and gain the confidence they need to make informed choices and navigate the early stages of their career.
